Learn about the condition and how it affects both boys and girls.

A fantastic opportunity to learn and develop techniques that could provide you with the skills that could help support a child with autism.

Learn about the behaviours and sensory difficulties a child or adult may face as part of their condition.

This workshop would benefit both Families and Professionals.

 


Workshop Title - Autism and Girls (Little Girl Lost) 

Date - Friday 8 February 2019

Times - 10.00am to 2.00pm

Cost - £20.00 (includes refreshments)

Learn about how females present with their autistic traits.

Females are often diagnosed with a mental health condition, usually through puberty therefore they are misdiagnosed, this can lead to their autism diagnosis occurring much later.

Find out why this is and how females mask and camouflage their autistic traits.

 

Workshop Title - Understanding Sensory Difficulties (Behind The Lense) 
Date - 26 February 2019 

Times - 10.00am to 2.00pm

Cost - £20.00 (includes refreshments)

Learn about the senses and how they can have a significant dysfunctional effect on children and adults with autism if not supported appropriately.

Find out what the difference is between a Meltdown and Shutdown?

Does your child fit the coke bottle effect analogy, ie no problems at school and then the lid comes off once they are home ?

Techniques and Information provided are examples from our trainer’s experiences and knowledge they have.

 

About the trainer

All sessions are delivered by Alison Blaney-Wombwell who is the Lead Offcer for ASD / Neurodevelopmental issues at Families First (North East). She is also our External Trainer and delivers a number of support groups within the organisation for children, parents and families.

Alison trains from the 1st person experience as at the age of 34, Alison is now at the end of her own autism diagnosis after being diagnosed in her teens with anorexia, anxiety disorder and struggling with her mental health.

Alison is also a parent with two daughters, both with a diagnosis of autism and complex needs.

These sessions are a great opportunity to experience training from a first-hand perspective underpinned with clinical research and best practice.
